Lesson 2: Build a strong homepage
In Course 4, you learned how to make a great first impression on your homepage to your customers and call them to action. If you have an online store where customers can purchase products or services online, we recommend having a clear call to action such as Shop or Order Now.
REVIEW YOUR HOMEPAGE TO ENSURE THAT:
- Use a beautiful main photo
- Keep it simple using micro-content that is short and sweet
- Incorporate a catchy tagline to sum up what your business is about
- Put your CTA at the very top of the page
- Link customers from the homepage to other pages to learn more
If you haven’t completed Course 4, now is a great time to do so.
Your homepage should include a few products or services
Somewhere on your homepage, you’ll want to display a small selection of products or services available to your customers. You’ll want to write short descriptions to help attract your customers into your online store. You can use top sellers, featured or discounted products, or products representing a broader category on your homepage.
When writing your descriptions, be sure to:
- Describe how your products help with “benefit” focused language
- Tell your customer about what the products do with “feature” focused language
It’s not enough to just talk about your product or service features; don’t be afraid to tell your customers how awesome their life will be after buying your product! Your site’s homepage will attract customers into the store by using both feature and benefit language. Use both to tell a compelling story about how you’ll help your customer resolve real pain-points in their life.
