Lesson 12: Try, try, and try again — test and iterate
PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION
You will likely fail the first few times you market your store, and that’s totally normal!
A wise man once said, “Version one is better than version none.” Most companies make mistakes that end up one of two ways: they either think what they’ve created is perfect from the get-go and never evolve, or they spend too much time tinkering trying to reach perfection and never commit to launching.
The reality is that healthy eCommerce stores fall somewhere in the middle. Most of the time you’ll spend on your eCommerce will be after launching and making adjustments to it as you receive feedback and learn new insights about your customers.
Growth is a process, and we’re with you when it gets hard
Growth can be difficult, and sometimes feedback is hard to push through, but the more you dedicate to evolving your business through testing and iteration, the better you’ll perform over time. Use the feedback and reviews you receive from customers and the data you capture in Google Analytics to drive business iterations.
Are customers leaving the checkout process at the shipping stage? Try offering them free shipping. Are users coming from Instagram looking at your products but not adding anything to their cart? Advertise a limited-time offer to them on Instagram to try to convert them. There are a ton of changes you can make, but it sometimes might take up to twenty or thirty tests before you get it right. Don’t be discouraged – you’ve got this!
Case study: iwi fresh
Yolanda understands the pressures of growing a business and leveraging an eCommerce store to maximize sales. Through her tremendous risks and fighting for what she believed in, she adapted and evolved despite the obstacles in her way. iwi fresh started as a humble homemade product but grew as Yolanda made adaptations. Later, Whole Foods discovered iwi fresh and placed Yolanda’s goods on their shelves. You can learn more about Yolanda and hear her story on GoDaddy’s Made Here podcast.
