Lesson 2: Why is website security important?
Website security is important, because your website is the gateway to your business. You don’t want to lose control of it to a hacker like in the image below.
A secure website will help you avoid security incidents that can be damaging to your brand or your visitors (i.e., customers). If you’re hacked, you can lose the hard work you’ve put into your site, and your customers’ information can be compromised, harming the brand image you’ve worked hard to build.
Safeguarding your website and user data will build trust with your customers. It shows you care about their security.
Plans are worthless, but planning is everything. — Dwight D. Eisenhower
Someone who has not done any planning for a business emergency (like a hacked website) will be ineffective at responding to an emergency. In comparison, someone who makes contingency plans will be able to adapt more quickly and effectively– even if those plans have to be revised.
Case study: Katie Delwiche, Cloud and Crow
Building a business that’s secure was important to Katie, a San Francisco Empower participant. Having a secure website for her Cloud and Crow business helps her feel at ease as she helps city-dwellers connect with nature. You can learn more about Kate on the GoDaddy Made Here podcast.
Hopefully at this point, you’re with us that website security is vital to your brand’s success. In the next lessons, we’ll cover potential security threats and how to make plans that protect your site.
