Lesson 3: Gaining subscribers

researching

Now that you know how to craft compelling emails, you’ll need subscribers! When people subscribe to your emails, it helps keep your business at the top of your customer’s mind when they’re looking for a product or service like yours.

Check out the video below to learn more about how to build a high-quality subscriber list.

Here are some key tips to keep in mind as you build your subscriber list:

Have a sign-up form

Allow people to sign up for your email list on your website and on your social media (through a link to your website). You can also encourage sign-ups through a website pop-up. If people are following you on social media or visiting your site, chances are that they already like you, so invite them to be part of your more exclusive community of email subscribers.

Avoid buying lists and offer security

Although building a subscriber list may seem intimidating, if you buy email lists, you usually end up with unhappy people with no interest in your products (plus, it’s illegal). An email list of 20 loyal customers is far more valuable than 1,000 strangers. Build a quality subscriber list of loyal customers by offering them security–do not share, rent, or sell their emails.

Provide incentives and promote exclusive content

Offer email subscribers early access to sales or new products to entice them to sign up. Or, offer an insider incentive like loyalty programs and exclusive discounts. You can also run contests or provide fun quizzes for subscribers.

Once you’ve got new subscribers, you’ll want to keep them engaged. But before we move on to the next lesson to learn more, answer the following discussion question below.
