Lesson 6: Utilize keywords to optimize your content
Search engines can’t read pages like humans can, so we incorporate structure and clues as to what our content means. To improve your on-page SEO, it’s important to place the keywords you identified for your business in your site’s content—especially in the titles, headers, subheads, and body text.
Keep in mind, though, the number of times you use your keywords isn’t directly correlated with search engine results, so don’t try to create content that is made up of only keywords. People are looking at your site, too!
Case study: Kay Luttrell, Owner of Unlax Candles
Kay splits her time between being a business owner in Virginia and an active duty military member. Kay struggles with anxiety and found that candles helped relax her, so she decided to start Unlax Candles to help others struggling with similar issues. Kay knows that things like her focus on self-care therapy and her one-candle, one-tree giving model set her business apart. On her website, Kay incorporates keywords like: candles, wax melts, self-care therapy, relax, hand-poured, toxins-free, and give-back. This helps search engines find her and get her site in front of the right customers.
Keywords should help your customers find what they’re looking for
As you add keywords into the content of your website, think about the following questions: Does your keyword-sprinkled content answer all your customers’ questions? Does it explain every topic thoroughly and adequately? Is your content readable, informative, and valuable? If yes, then you’re in good shape!
